Orlando police report 4th homicide of 2008
Williams, 38, died shortly after arriving at Orlando Regional Medical Center, and became the Orlando Police Department’s fourth homicide victim this year. He was the second person shot to death in the city in less than 24 hours. Orlando detectives continued their investigation Monday into the death of Richard Villegas, 19, who was fatally shot near his home on Hermosa Street about 2 a.m. Sunday. No one has been arrested in that case and there is no known motive, police said. Orlando police initially reported that Williams’ death was the result of a botched carjacking. Williams arrived at his home about 11 p.m. when two men approached and demanded his car, initial reports said. Neither of the men knew how to drive the vehicle because it was a stick shift. But Monday, an agency spokeswoman could not confirm that. Sgt. Barb Jones said robbery was the motive in Williams’ death, but she said detectives do not know if or how it was related to his vehicle. No one answered the door at Williams’ home Monday. LaQuasia Rodgers, who often visits a friend in the community, said Williams was married and had several children. She said he was a devoted father who worked hard to provide for his family and was proud of a recent promotion. “He’s a gentleman,” she said. Rodgers said she left her friend’s house shortly before the shooting. “That could have been me,” she said. “I had just left here.” Police continue to seek tips about the shooters who, they said, ran from the scene.
