Man Charged In Auto Theft, Assault

Auto Trade  man in a stolen Chevrolet Impala was arrested Tuesday morning after he nearly hit a deputy on Capital Circle Northwest, said Tony Drzewiecki, spokesman for the Leon County Sheriff’s Office. The man, Shawn Cromartie, was sitting in the Impala when the deputy approached. Cromartie almost struck the deputy with the car, then drove away. Cromartie later crashed at Fred George Road and Capital Circle. He was arrested on charges of grand theft auto, aggravated assault against a law-enforcement officer and driving without a license, Drzewiecki said.

Active Living Expo kicks off: The Tallahassee Senior Center and the Area Agency on Aging for North Florida Inc. are hosting the 10th annual Active Living Expo at 5 p.m. Thursday and Friday at the Senior Center, 1400 North Monroe St. More than 80 exhibitors will provide health screenings and information on recreation, housing, technology, fitness, health services and more. The welcome reception starts at 5 p.m. to kick off the festivities. The evening runs until about 8 p.m. Refreshments will be served. Friday’s events run from 9:30 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. Grand prize drawings include a trip from Fabulous Tours and golf at Golden Eagle Country Club. The Expo is open to the public. The $2 admission ticket is good for both days and complimentary valet parking is available.

TCC hosts Baker Act training: Tallahassee Community College will host a training session for the Florida Mental Health Act, better known as the Baker Act, Thursday from 8 a.m.-5 p.m. at the College’s Center for Economic & Workforce Development. Thursday’s session will provide an overview of the Baker Act and its procedures, including law enforcement, mental health professionals, hospital personnel, attorneys, advocates, case managers, nursing home Assisted Living Facilities (ALF) staff and protective service workers. Subway spokesman to speak about obesity: Jared Fogle, the Indiana man who shed more than 200 pounds eating Subway sandwiches, will speak to students today as part of a national campaign against childhood obesity. Fogle is celebrating the 10th anniversary of his loss with a nationwide tour Auto Trade. He will speak with students at Leon High School in the morning before spending the afternoon with Lincoln High School students.
