According to the lawsuit filed on September 22 in Madison County Circuit Court, James B. Rohrer was diagnosed with mesothelioma on September 2, 2007, and died just two months later on November 12.

Regina Rohrer says her husband worked in a naval shipyard for 30 years, which is where she believes he was exposed to large amounts of asbestos.

Naval shipyards have long been known as places where substantial amounts of asbestos were used in building and repairing ships. In fact, thousands of previous shipyard workers and people serving in the United States Navy have developed asbestos-related diseases as a consequence of working on and around asbestos.

The lawsuit claims the asbestos exposure that James suffered should have been anticipated and prevented by the defendant John Crane. It also states he developed an asbestos-related disease that caused him great physical and mental pain.

In addition, Regina is claiming compensation for medical costs, loss of income, and loss of earning capacity. The seven-count lawsuit asks for at least $200,000, including compensatory damages of at least $150,000.

Regina Rohrer also seeks punitive damages to the amount of which will be decided by the jury in the case. She hopes it will be an amount sufficient to punish the defendants for misconduct in exposing James Rohrer to asbestos, and to deter other defendants for similar misconduct.
