Flint Worries About Low Car Sales

General Motors stock hit a more than 50 year low last week. Now, industry analysts say the automaker has to make some major changes. Insiders expect GM will lay off more white collar workers, they also say GM could get rid of some of it’s brands like Buick or SABB.

There is rising fear right here in Mid-Michigan on what a weakening General Motors could mean for the Flint auto heritage. Flint is the birthplace of both Chevy and Buick. Buick sales right now are down 21%. For many enthusiasts, talk of GM even considering dumping that brand would bring about the unthinkable.

We spoke with Brian Kitchen, president of the Genesee County chapter of the Buick Club of America. He says the auto giant still has many opportunities at their disposal to remain on top, including producing better cars and at a more reasonable price. Still, he says it could be to late “That’s why we have the Sloan Museum.  That’s why we are trying to preserve our heritage.  General Motors and Flint are together and they should always remain together.”

Amid rising talk of bankruptcy for GM, Kitchens says he certainly hopes that doesn’t happen, but wouldn’t be surprised if it did.
