Striking Auto Drivers To Meet Vilasrao
Representatives of the striking auto rickshaw drivers union will meet Chief Minister Vilasrao Deshmukh in an attempt to resolve their agitation which began on Tuesday, Auto Route a union member said.
“We will meet with the Chief Minister today and place before him our demands including the withdrawl of the electronic meters and other issues Auto Route,” Sharad Rao, head of the Bombay Auto men’s Union said.
The three-day strike called by the union had been successful as the auto rickshaw drivers across the city and state stayed off the the road, Rao said.
The union is protesting against the government’s proposal to introduce electronic meters to replace the existing mechanical meters and is also demanding other benefits for the auto rickshaw drivers.
